Unlessthe times have changed inVermont - and things change slowly there - you will have to pay Vermont tax on your Vanagon when you register a vehicle brought in from another state. If memory serves me correctly, you pay tax based on the book value of the vehicle. I don't know whose "book" the VT DMV uses, but when I registered a '82 Rabbit Diesel & a '88 Fox there back in '89, I was slammed with close to $1500 in fees!

hello, all, i've been watching the messages on registering vanagons in your respective states, and i think vermont registration costs is comparable to many of yours. my question is: should i register the car in vermont before i sell it? it's still registered in north carolina; in fact, i just got it inspected there a month ago. i live close to the nh and mass state lines and i wouldn't be surprised if i sold my van to someone outside vt., which means they'd have to re-register... thanks, susan ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
