Try calling VWoA with the van VIN!

I was once contemplating getting a Syncro Westy (87 for $10,000 US) from Toronto. I had to do some leg work to find out if the vehicle was approved for the US. I was told by US Customs/Importers to get the manufacturer (VWoA)to send a me a letter validating that the particular vehicle was built to US codes and standards. To get this I had to call VWoA.

I used the VIN, called VWoA and got a real person who searched a database while I was online. She was pretty friendly, helpful, and able to tell me the history of the registration of the van. She had records that the previous owner had registered the van in California. Therefore, with the Calif. registration,it would be much easier to get the right papers to bring the van in (back) to the US through US Customs.

Anyway I never followed through because of the hassles, BS plus additional $$ to an importer plus additional import taxes - even for the $10K cost of the van.

I finally found a better van here in the US.

Joel Cort 89 Syncro GL Westy "Cinnabar"
