Subject: Radio wiring and wire hacks by previous owner???

Just a query to anyone with similar experience.

I recently got to the point that the crummy AM/FM Cassette that the last owner threw into my Vanagon's dash is just getting to me...

Didn't work...found that the ground was faulty in its' harness...then found the fancy Pioneer speakers he put in the doors had the cones rotted out...real nasty sounding. Then I tried a tape and got a slow drone to a stop...managed to get my tape back out though.

Needless to say I removed the radio and speakers...found that he had used a power wire from off the headlight switch that was always hot through a fuse to the radio. He had hacked the wires to the lighter for a double power outlet installed near my right knee. He told me it was for his phone and credit card machine. The hot and ground from the lighter seem to be pretty obvious and blow fuse #8 when shorted. I've got a couple extra brown wires he was using for speaker grounds, etc. but think I can put things back in some sort of order.

Does anyone know if VW includes the wires for a radio even if it didn't come with one originally. I'd like to track down a fused connector for a new radio if there is one.
