For those out there who had wondered about this,it does exist, and I now have it in my clammy hands! I waited patiently for my local VW dealer to deliver as promised,it took about 1 1/2 months! The price wasn't so bad-$370 shop price! Decided to replace the sender also, another $110 (OUCH!!) So onward I go,with the 1.9 TD Syncro Westy transplant.I have also decided to use the Quantum- style exhaust manifold(as the factory did!!)even though several out there thought it was not a great idea-it works out MUCH better than the center-exit manifold.A little TIG work on the 1.9 intake to move the pressure inlet the side, and it works out perfectly! No interference with the left engine mount! One question remains:does anyone (those who sent me the part # for the tank?) know if the TD Syncro starter was the same as the US diesel van? Or was it a gear-reduction-drive one similar to the later Golf/Jetta TD's? A little more space there couldn't hurt! A side note-on my recent trip to Cape Cod from Md., the van ran so well that I for a second wondered if I should really cut out the still-beating gasoline heart. 18 MPG @ a normal 110 Km/Hr (with 27x8.5s!) is pretty darn good, too! Hey y'all-clean those ground wire connections to the computer,it was the cure to all the recent poor-running symptoms that OTTO had. If all goes well, the new 'heart' should beat within the next month, and I do hope to start my own page soon to post photos/info/etc for those interested in such a project themselves. The light is beginning to shine at the end of the tunnel.....
