Subject: Temp Warning Light Mystery

Hi, Todd-

FWIW, my temp light intermittantly goes through periods of flashing. The coolant level and composition is correct, the engine runs fine, and the temperature is perfectly normal, but once in awhile the temp warning light flashes for a few days or weeks, then, just as suddenly, it stops.

Many volks have suggested that the contacts on the temp sensor may be dirty, so I removed the connector (at the coolant expansion tank), cleaned the contacts with some electrical solvent stuff, and re-attached them. The light continued to flash, but it quits much more often now.

Another suggested that I "crimp" the connector to the sensor contacts.

Finally, one fellow said that he solved this problem by replacing the coolant sensor, only to find that the problem returned within a month.

In summary: ?????!

I'm learning to ignore that flashing light.
