Subject: Syncro Front Axel Nuts--(Let me know if you want in on this deal)

AOL IM:

Derek Drew: Mr. Metric has those front axel nuts I want and they only cost about $2.30 each compared to, like $8 each or something at the dealer. But they say I have to buy a minimum of 50. Do you replace your front axel nuts every time you undo them? SyncroHead: Hi Derek, I was in an automated mail send & retrieve session and couldn't respond earlier. SyncroHead: The only time's I've had them off was to replace the rotors and I think the new nuts were included with the rotors & I replaced them. Not certain though. SyncroHead: I do know that they are intended to deform only once. This action must strain the nut beyond its elastic limit. SyncroHead: If you buy them. I'd buy 6 of them. Derek Drew: OK. I was in the shower when you responded, hence my late response to you. I guess I cannot *not* buy them at Mr. Metric, so sooner or later I guess you are in for six. I will let you know.

Anybody else on the Vanagon list want some of these? I think I am going to keep 25 and if I send 6 to Jim that means I still have to unload about 19 to other syncronauts on the list.

If somebody emails a better source/price on these things let me know and I will toss my buying plan out the window. Specs are DIN 980 V, Hex Nut, Deformed Thread Self Locking, with Collar, M20x1.5, category 8. The dealer calls 'em N 100 853 01.

Sort of burns me that there is still a $5 penalty every time I want to take the front axel nuts off. Oh well, better than a $16 penalty going through the dealer. _____________________________________________________ Derek Drew New York, NY & Washington DC ConsumerSearch drew@interport.net 212-580-6486, 202-966-7907 (W) 212-580-4459; 202-966-0938 (H)
