Sure, why not?
According to the United States Uniform Code of Motor Vehicle Devices,
(USUCMVD), Section 126-d, Sub Section VX, paragraph 12, Floral Vases fall into
the catagory of devices termed "Consumer Requsted Accessory Parts", (CRAP),
which most US jurisdictions allow for.
These CRAP accessories provide litle or no functionality for the
transportation device, however they enhance the users perceived value of the
vehicle, and thus, often their enjoyment, and the law allows for this. As a
counterexample, the accessory of a four-barrel carburetor can make a '76 Chevy
go faster, so it is not CRAP, but a Governed Accessory, Requiring Buyer to
Access Government Explanations (GARBAGE). Some of these items are allowed on
street cars by the USUCMVD, but many are not, e.g. JATO rockets, large
electromagentic repulsion devices, or spikey spinners in the middle of your
wheels, ala chariot racers.
But bud vases are A-okay...I quote from the USUCMVD:
"...all manner of devices in the following categories, and like devices
unnamed, but similar in design, functionality, or intent shall be allowed in
every jurisdiction without infringement, unless they pose serious, verifiable
threat to life or limb of passengers of said vehicle, or other motorists in
the vicinity of said vehicle, whether involved in a collision or not:
clear plastic seat covers,
mud flaps with buxom chrome girlie figures,
mud flaps with Yosemite Sam saying "Back Off",
"My Other Car Is A..." license plate frames,
"La Cucaracha" or "Dixie" air horns,
cow-moooo, train whistle, or other "talking" horns
"Step Away From the Car" talking car alarms
curb feelers,
Bean-BOM fringe rear window adornment,
mini-chandeliers,
fuzzy dice
"dice" valve stem caps
chrome "barefoot" gas pedals,
multi-element "Wink" rearview mirrors,
Knight-Rider scanning LED front grill adornment,
chasing light license plate adornment,
Super-thumper, 1000 watt stereo, with 15" woofers
under-car neon lighting,
welded-chain steering wheels,
"Scent Tree" air fresheners,
orange painted flames
"BAD BOY" cut vinyl window graphics
Rebal Flag hood paint scheme
dog-with-bobbing-head rear window adornment
"baby on board" window displays
anything made of neon-colored plastic for motorbox use (tubes, wires, etc.)
Vases designed for display of cut flowers,..."
While the list goes on for some time, I think that pretty well answers your
question. ;) VW led the way in "accesories" with the bud vase. Thanks VW!
(bTW just kiddin'. I like bud vases, and will prolly put some right next to
the fuzzy dice in our spanky new Westy.)
