The water cooled Mexican vans that I have seen are T2 variants and so have a taller engine compartment (able to accept the 1600 air-cooled upright). If my memory is correct, the engine is not leaned over as far as it is in my Diesel vanagon and it has the rounded oil pan, not the flat bottom one. The engines are carbureted and they fly right by me in my loaded down Syncro camper. The next time I go south of the border I will try to get another look and report back anthing interesting.
