Hi Volks, Some Friday business. I just bought an 89 Westy. I'm going to take it to Moab tomorrow to see if it can go the places my 78 went for the last ten years (got crunched about a month ago). I predict the 89 will not climb as well (prognostication based on relative performance in local Wasatch Mountains), will go better through sand due to wider tires , and ? The rest will be revealed. BTW, have those of you who have been to Moab seen the 23 window Microbuses with the big ass rear tires (for sand) that have been taking tourists to remote locations for many years? Another point of interest is Tom Tom's Volkswagen Museum. It attained museum status when an ordinance was passed making it illegal to operate junk yards in city limits. He has bugs, splits, bays, vans, and is a rather interesting old fellow himself. Likes to talk VW to people who stop in. Also, if you fly into Moab, Coyote shuttle uses late model Bays to take you to your hotel or trailhead. Cost $10. My apologies if this info was covered in an earlier (than when I joined the list) post. ALWAYS Keep to the High Road, Fred 78 and 89 Westys |
