Fire sprinkler for vanagon: For the lucky westy owners among us, it wouldn't be so difficult to rig a water sprinkler system in the engine compartment by utilizing the existing water tank. That way if a fire strikes, one can flip a switch, evacuate the van, and watch from a safe distance how the sprinkler flushes the engine with up to 13 gallons of water. If the fire is in its early stage, it might be stopped. At least all the water steam should cool things down and buy you some time while creating a spectacular view for the other motorists. The main item one would need is a 12 volt 45 psi 3 gal. per minute pump. They are available for about 80 dollars. Auxiliary battery would power the sprinkler system pump, even if the electrical system fails. Of course, this doesn't stop a hot magnesium fire, but it might prevent one, if one activates the sprinkler in time. Any opinions? Harald 90 westy with new fuel lines.
