My 85 squeaked also. But, my squeak came from the upper ball joint. When I checked the upper control arm bushings...they were slopping around in there which explained why, when I was driving, the steering seemed to have a mind of its own. Thought my van was possessed. After the upper control arm bushings were replaced, I got my stability back.
