I have had an 84 GL, an 87 Wolfsburg, and an 86 Syncro, non of which
splashed out excess gas upon filling.  However, the non-Syncros were full
within one-half gallon when the automatic shutoff was reached.  The Syncro,
on the other hand, can be coaxed to accept up to three gallons of
additional gas after automatic shutoff.  There is no gas odor after this
excess filling.

These results have been replicated at various gas pumps all over the
country.  Apparently the Syncros have a LARGE filler neck which is lacking
on the non-Syncros.  Whatever it is, the extra gas capacity is a welcome
addition.

Do other Syncro owners have similar results?
