Hi all,

I am new to the list today. I drive an 84 Vanagon with 184,000 miles daily.

I just purchased an 87 Syncro. This bus has been sitting in back of a repair garage since 1995 when it was brought in with shifting problems. The previous owner told me he could not get it into 1st gear when he brought it in and that he thinks the garage made it worse. The garage owner told me that it was stuck in 2 gears.

Does anyone have any ideas what to look for?

The old owner told me he had new heads installed right before the shifting problem. Assuming he used good coolant, should I expect the heads to still be good?

Any comments will be appreciated.
