After reading several posts regarding the potential for fires resulting
from cracking of rubber segments of the high-pressure fuel lines in the
engine compartment, I immediately went out and checked my '82 Westy.

EVERY ONE of the rubber segments that join the metal sections of the ring
line in the engine compartment showed signs of cracking and age - usually
on the _inside_ of the bend where you can't see until you take the hose
off. Fortunately, none had cracked all the way through, but were well on
their way!  Replaced every one I could get my hands on!

Each fuel injector also has a short rubber lead off the ring line - but it
looks like those hoses are crimped right into the injector.  Does anyone
know if these can be replaced without replacing the injectors?

Deterioration of these parts is real hazard!  Has VW ever issued a service
bulletin on this?  CHECK THOSE HOSES, Volks!
