One cannot live as comfortably in the outback in an '89 Cherokee as one
can in a Westfalia, although the process of getting TO the outback is
undoubtedly faster.


With a power-to-weight ratio only exceeded by semi trucks, trains, and
ocean-going  super tankers, the Westfalia will afford you ample time to
contemplate buying a more powerful vehicle as you are relegated to the
slow lane of even the gentlest grade.


Having said that, I own and enjoy my '82 Vanagon. Speed isn't
everything.
