Listees, I've acquired a 1.9 engine from an 85 Vanagon, from a list member, "as was, where was." At the end of a 9,121-mile journey from PSP, CA, as far East as Augusta, ME, towing Coleman Versatrailer, 250 lbs. empty, and 750 lbs., gross weight, loaded, including 1.9 L engine, for about 4,000 miles of the 9,100 miles, the only casualties were: 1. fused ceramics in cat converter (helped by info from Unca Joel and other List members ) 2 failure under road hazard warranty of Yokohama Y356, after I hit a RR track at 40 mph, 3. broken ground under dash which "offed" headlights, (diagnosed and repaired by my wife) and 4. failed 8" x 8.5 tire on trailer. During the 47-day trip , my spouse, two Dachshunds, African Love Bird and I, visited Darrell Boehler, Jim Dunn and marcus, troopers, all. Can any Listee tell me a method for a DIYer ( do it yourselfer) to test the compression in an out-of- vehicle engine? Assume that I have a compressor, and a compression gauge.
