Always?.... I think not... maybe in Calif., Ga., & fill in the blank state.
BUT...in Foreign countries (thank goodness) like Canada & OZ... Mickeys
(that the size that is curved & fits so nicely in the back pocket) of Rye
come in
unbreakable plastic...great to refill with maple syrup (oh we digress)....
Now here is one more opinion on freezing pumps from an old bushfart who's
owned a few VW campers...My 78 Champagne Westy needed the hose disconnected
at the pump or it froze and split the impeller section open... This can be
fixed by gluing and still used again without buying a new pump... but
because it's at the bottom of the potable water system level it ALWAYs froze
on me (at -40c you'd freeze also)... now my 87 Westy has a different system
(and more expensive pump) which drains down back into the tank after pumping
(making a strange noise which always gets my dogs attention) on this 87
model system... I drain the whole tank, put the drain cap back on... then
put in cheap alcohol (saving the good stuff for myself) wallymart has
isopropyl for $.67cdn (there is gas line, RV antifreeze, ethanol, and all
kinds of high test booze...but don't use Radiator antifreeze) pour the
alcohol into the empty tank (only need about 2 cups ) turn the pump on... as
soon as something comes out STOP...that's it...I stick a sign in the sink NO
WATER.. (connect pump first on 78) on the 87 the drain from the sink is
straight out NO trap... I think the 78 had a trap and I just poured some
juice into that (any kind... this is not the Potable system) then when I'm
ready for traveling again... I drop the tank drain cap flush with some
potable water, run the pump a few times, flush the tank again, then filler
up with what I consider to be the best tasting water on this planet... but
then I'm sure someone living in some different planetary subdivision KNOWS
there's is the best... Just like they know no one can get their booze in
plastic bottles. I don't care where you get it or what shape bottle it comes
in......Just try enjoying it Eh?
Cheers
Rob
87 Westy SycnroGL.....Cynosure
P.S. I have never had any problems with anything in my van water system
(other than my brain) being dissolved, melted, etched, twisted, or wrecked
by alcohol.
