John; Your bus is probably OK but if you just want to check everything out real good for some peace of mind here's what I would do: 1.Take the radiator to someone who can blast it out. There are a couple of methods used; most include some combination of forced hot fluid, sonic waves and pressure. The core can not(usually) be dipped or rodded out. If you flush the entire car then definitely do the above radiator treatment because you are more likely to leave more junk in the radiator than you take out. 2. Your thermostat is most likely OK also but you could boil it and observe the opening temperature. 3. Assemble and fill with 50/50 phosphate free antifreeze. Remove all air. As for your fast idle check the coolant temp sender. The best method is to unplug the ECU and read the resistance at the to appropriate pins back through the wiring to the sensor. Do this after the bus has set over night, then the sensor will be at ambient temperature. Compare to chart in Bentley. Drive Safely & Good Luck Ken Lewis<Kernersville,NC>86 VW crewcab;60 T-5 Coupe
