It's the power steering pressure switch and connects to the idle stabilizer control unit (see Bentley, 97.90). I suspect that it allows the idle stabilizer to increase idle when steering wheel is moved while stopped... If you have no problem with stalling while parking or other low speed maneuvering, then it hasn't become a problem.
