I've had mine in since I first posted this to the list and have had no problems. What might be the problem is what kind of PVC you are using. The first one I made was just regular PVC. It kind of rattled around in there, which I didn't like. The next ones I made up were with pressure PVC, which has a thicker sidewall and fit much more snug over the strut. No play in them.

Next up I'll post my homemade PVC rain gutter awning supports. No clamps needed :)
