Hans & Listees,

I use to have this outlet on my old 83.5 Westy Wolfy. I have spent some time in Europe (3 month bike trek + numerous visits); at most car parts store (Pep-Garcons or DerWonderPartsPlace) over there, they sell accessories that plug right into that electrical outlet. It is made by Hella like other VW electrical components. The connection, once plugged in, is a very tight and snug. It does not pull out easily like the cigarette lighter plug accessories.

Perhaps some of our European members (or Bus Depot?) could procure some after market plugs for us to splice and use on our current lighter plug accessories???

Why just last weekend, I was looking as drilling a hole in the dash of my newly acquired 89 Syncro Westy, to add the very same electrical outlet that I purchased back in Europe. I also acquired a neat utility lamp with a magnet back and about 30ft (sorry 10 Metres) extension that winds backup and neatly stows away. Its no larger than a roll of Scotch tape. Very handy for changing (Big O/BF Garbage/Badyear/Fierstoned NON-Reinforced) flat tires at night.

I gave more than my 2cents on this reply ;-)
