Here's what my chemist friends tell me:

Ethylnol or ethyl alcohol is the drinkable alcohol.. and "most" plastics will dissolve in it... some plastics are more resilient than others. If you put gin in a laboratory grade plastic bottle, you can "taste" the plastic after a few days. (I've volunteered to do that experiment to determine the number of day before the taste is perceptible <g>)

Methylnol is the alcohol you burn for fuel and do not dissolve most commercial plastics but it is very very poisonous.. do not use this stuff to use to clean any thing you may want to consume later.

Isopropylnol is rubbing alcohol. It does not dissolve most commercial grade plastics but it is not recommended you drink it.. not as bad as methylnol .. (I did not volunteer for the experiment to find out what "not as bad as.." means.<g>)
