Subject: 1990 Blaupukt Heidleberg Radio Problem
Comments: To: vanagon@vanagon.com

In the course of fixing my transmission, the repair shop disconnected the battery, dropping power to the radio. The radio has an electronic theft device that thinks what has happened is that someone has stolen the radio. Normally this is not a problem for the owner (me).

The radio now displays the word "SAFE" and refuses to allow entering a code to enable the radio again. Normally pressing the AM/FM and FF buttons (far left and far right buttons on the first button row) bring the radio to "CODE" so you can enter a code. However, it is now permanently locked onto SAFE and I cannot enter anything, ro change to a CODE mode.

The repair shop has called VW and they claim the radio is defunct. It wasn't defunct when I brought it in!

The radio is a Blaupunkt Heidleberg, vintage 1990 that came as original equipment on the 1990 Vanagons.

Does anyone have any idea on how to break into the radio's "computer" so I can reclaim my radio?

Appreciate any insights. Thanks!
