This past summer my '87 Syncro, with 90k miles, often ran "hot", especially sitting in traffic, so I bit the bullet and replaced the following:

new fan switch on radiator

new 80C thermostat

new temperature sensor

new resistor (it was definitely burnt out)

and bled the system

Result? The vehicle never "gets hot", the fan comes on at the proper time, and the system typically runs right at the LED in the middle of the scale. Total cost was well under $100 and well worth it in my opinion.
