Dear Volks,

Anyone heard of or tried the CARNIVAL CARAVANS RV adventure of taking your Vanagon piggyback on a flat car through the famous "Barranca del Cobre" of mexico? You caravan with a bunch of RV's from El Paso to Chihuahua, load your "RV" onto a flat car, set up your lawn chair and enjoy as you go, on the Train, through this amazing, huge canyon of Mexico's Sierra Madre. Stops at Creel, Divisadero, Bahuichivo and then to Los Mochis and Caravan back to Nogales.

This sounds like such a kick, pricey though, $2100. Anyone know anyone who's tried it?

I made the trip on the train back in 92 with a group. We started in Los Mochis and, predictably, had a break down and failure of the A/C. One of our group, in search of a way out of the heat, made her way forward and was invited onto the locomotive. Before long, most of us were out there, hugging side rail, deafened, getting covered with soot from the pounding diesel and having a great time enjoying the spectacular view. This went on till the state border when one person was struck in the head by a bat in one of the numerous tunnels, the new crew shooed us all back inside.

Their address is Carnival RV Caravans, 119 N. Commercial St, #350, Bellingham, WA 98225, 1-800-556-5652, or -314-7256. I have no connection with them, just curious.
