Hello everyone, I am new to the list (any listserv database for that matter) so excuse any breach of etiquette

I recently bought a 1990 Corrado powered Syncro Westfalia (whew) and plan on heading to Costa Rica this winter. In planning for the trip I have a few items I thought the list might be able to help me out with:

1) Anybody interested in going to Costa Rica this January? I would prefer to caravan for safety sake. We could meet in Texas and start south sometime in early Jan.

2) Has anyone driven to Costa Rica before? If so, any tips for the uninitiated.

3) This may be more for any European list member. When I was traveling in Europe I stopped at Lake Garda (Italy) for some windsurfing. While there I was impressed by the number of Westfalia with windsurfing gear rigged to a side mounted rack. For my Costa Rica trip I plan on bringing a lot of gear - Mountain Bikes, Windsurfer, etc.

Does anyone know where I can get my hands on one of these side mounted racks?

4) A Spare parts list for traveling into Central America.

5) Any other words of wisdom or tidbits of truth from the collective knowledge of fellow list members?

Thanks for any help.
