I would try the idle adjust screw on the throttle body. Make a mark on it
so you know where you started in case you want to set it back.
The Air Bypass Valve is adjustable but nowhere will you find a
procedure. I experimented with it trying to (unsuccessfully) fix high HC
output. I produced a very similar symptom as yours. If you get the idle
correct with the second ABP you could try to fix the first one. To access
the adjustment unplug the electrical connector and remove a 2mm allen set
screw from the center. Now reconnect the plug and pull back the rubber
boot. The adjustment is accessible, while the engine is running, with a
2.5mm allen between the two wires. Turn the allen CCW to raise the idle,
CW to lower. There is a very small "window" of adjustment.
Let me know if you come up with a logical procedure for
calibrating it.
