Our old distributors get loose, advance mechanism gets weak, so the amount of advance will vary. I can't advance mine any more 'cause it will get hard to start. Sure does make a difference in the top end! So, use the old trial and error method. Advance it until it knocks or is hard to start, then back off. Take it out and check performance. Works for me.
