Hey; ED how bouot one of those tailplatforms that hot air balloon baskets ride on?? you could attach to bumper and support/guy wires to the top hatch or rings in upper corner sheet metal. sounds like weight ins't much but travelling weight is a prob. (bouncing, swaying, wind resistance,g-forces,pot-holes from hell, moon's tidal pull?) You could always wrestle it up to the top. also i've seen prof. RV'rs mount outboards to a bracket on the rear bumper (locked/secured i'm sure) but they are made to take the weather. and no stink. goodluck happy dieseling!
How to carry the wife's Zodiac on our Westy diesel? This inflatable boat wieghs only about 50#, but folded, occupies the same volume as a rather large person would in a squatiting position, if you can imagine that. Then there is the motor, a 8hp outboard, and the fuel. We have been carring it, except for the fuel which goes in the top luggage rack, in the cab. This is not satisfactory of course, since the "squatter" is filling up allmost all the floor space & is unsafe loose and the motor is stinky. I suppose a little trailer is the only way to go for safty and room, though that would really be a burden for the little 1.6lt diesel. Any ideas? Yes, I do plan one day to swap engines, a 1.9ltr is supposed to be coming. Ed 82 Westy Diesel 85 Golf Diesel 92 Cabrio Daniel Stevens Operations Specialist |
