Have you checked the idle position switch on the throttle body? I fixed mine and a neighbour's van with bad idling behaviour by rebuilding this switch assembly and then do a PROPER idle adjustment. Even the people who installed his "rebuilt" engine only tweaked the idle adjustment screw until it seemed right. As this is a van with automatic transmission, it made things a bit involved. Also the temperature sensor in the thermostat housing influences idle, I think it's the blue one. > 1000 rpm is a bit high for idle, my book says 800. Actually, when the engine got hot, it was idling at a very stable 800 rpm, but at 1000 rpm when cold. It was idling calmer with the stabilizer connected. Furthermore, I didn't know that the DJ engine had the Digijet, I thought it had the Digifant, I don't have any manual, except the owners manual. There is no info on what type of injection my van has.A friend of mine had a Passat 2,0 1992 which sometimes had a very violent idle situation when cold. It ran to 1500 then fell down to where it almost choked, then ran to 1500 again. He took it to the local VW-dealer, but they found nothing wrong. He didn't find the problem as he sold the car only a month later. This car was Digifant-equipped. PerL 88 Syncro |
