2 Rotary (Wankel) continuing thread comments: 1) I researched putting a Mazda rotary into a future Experimental airplane. I will not due to high fuel burn, -premixing- of oil with fuel (look into this if you are serious, I will not waste keystrokes expounding upon this point) and finally: Why did Mazda -abandon- the wankel altogether? Yes it is a dirty engine (EPA reasons) and this speaks to unburned fuel out the tailpipe. I think however it just never did what it was envisioned to do. The only things it lived up to was fewer moving parts. 2) I thought engine braking was the best thing to come along since the synchromesh transmission? Engine Braking!! I cast my vote a profound YES!! (If the semi-trucks routinely do it, and drive a few miles on thier rigs......
