ON FRIDAY YOU WROTE:

If these are the same as the ones used to anchor Golf exhaust pipes, I have used the factory-tool set of wedges to remove/install them. You need two wedges for each spring (the two wedges in a set are slightly different), and although you can do it (on the Golf) with only one set, it is much easier with two sets. There was also apparently at one time a tool which used a screw to expand the spring, but I was told that this tool has been phased out.

I'll check into it because I've got one from my dad just last year. I think it was from SNAPON/BLUE POINT??? or maybe a local foreign auto. store (I'll check and post on monday) but for my experiance before the tool w/screw was to remove from above with a longish pry bar (read not much room in-there) and safely?? sprung it , usually ended up ratteling around to search the ground for. Assembly was much worse w/o tool for you had to lie on back w/car on stands/ramps (read about 12"-18" elbow room) and use channel locks for leverage to stretch spring (read @#$%^$) alot! But experiance taught that first spring is usually not to awful hard then with alot of extra noise drive to local muffler shop to let Mechanix w/tool assemble the other and gladely pay 1/2 hr madatory time for enjoying their coffee king. Enough exp. ramblings I'll ask for my source and reply on Monday Morn.

cheers and happy weekend. Dan Stevens
