Hi: I just became the owner of a 1990 Vanagon Carat and a new member of the list. One of the adjustment rods in the passenger seat armrests has come completely free from whatever it was screwed into. I fail to see how to access the area within the upholstered section where the thing came undone (those little screws on the black plastic part don't do it). Any thoughts? I'd appreciate it. By the way, the arrival of this 1990 lovely little van prompted my return to my favorite mechanic from the 1970s--Bela of Burbank--who actually remembered me after all these years and my dumb friend who used a rag as a makeshift gas tank cap which later got sucked into the engine of his Rabbit. Bela saved the day for the Rabbit, but still shakes his head over this.
