Subject: caliper/piston adjustment?
Comments: To: vanagon@vanagon.com
Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

Hello to all, I guess I should really concentrate on one problem at a time. I start to get ahead of myself with things I want to do to my van. The current project is almost complete, total break job. I got the discs grinded this am, got the bread pads, semi metalic, didn't want to spring for the OE pads. Everthing had been going fairly well, very slow, but no real problems until.........I can't get the caliper over the new break pads, is there an adjustment I have to make to the piston inorder for everything to finally come together, how do I do this................or what do I have to do. I got one pair on, but its seems too tight around the cylinder, the rotor or brake disc doesn't spin as freely as it should. Are the pads wrong or do they just require a little break in period, can I get the pads ground down just a hair to make them fit (kind of counter productive for brakes I guess but .....) If you have any question or comments they would all be helpful.
