Thanks to all of you for responding about the armrest, especially to Helmut (lucky me, I read German).

Just got my 90 Vanagon back from my a #1 mechanic Bela, and was very happy my new buggy is in pretty good shape for 138,000 miles. One dumb problem is the lock on the rear lid. Doesn't seem to want to open at all, even following the instructions in the manual. Bela doesn't do locks...what do I do, get a locksmith? Or is there some magical incantation I say over it?

I'm beginning to love this list.
