Dear Listees,

While over in Ireland this past summer I chanced upon a great magazine -- VW Motoring -- and in it an article on how this firm in England replaces the luggish airmeter in Golf GTi Digifants (same unit as in our Vanagons) with a conversion called "FilmStar" consisting of an interface to the ECU, translator chip, Bosch 70mm air-mass film unit, and a Bosch air-inlet temperature sensor. BTW, this is the same technology as used in the VR6. Power plots for the Golf engine showed a gain of 10hp from 2000 to redline and torque increase from 125 ft lbs to 143 ft lbs. Apparently, their firm has done hundreds of these conversions "over there".

Now it seems to me that this would be an easy conververion to our Vanagons -- right? (Certainly would work for all those Digifant Golf 4-banger Vanagon conversions out there) Combined with Kyle's cam and chip conversion one should have a pretty dynamic setup. However, I'm not sure if they would be willing to modify the unit for Vanagon installations -- perhaps there is not much to modify?

If anyone is interested in contacting these people, info is listed below:
