Oh contraire! I love my Vanagon..it has character.. in fact I won't part with it until VW-USA imports them again and I can get another copy.. And if I can spend enough of my free time keeping it healthy, I hope to teach my daughter (who is the same age as my Vanagon) to drive in it when she turns 18 (no typo here.. can't stand the idea of 16/17 year old driving!)

However, my missive still stands.. And here's a parallel. As long as we have known PC's, there were pc users groups.. but have you ever heard of an IBM-Selectric Typwriter users groups? Why? Because PC's are such finicky entities we must have a user group to support each other. So, is there a Camry@camry.com listserv to advise Camry owners on how to keep their cars alive and well and commiserate with each other on the misforturntes of their last trip?

In the final analysis, VW lost the market because their cars are finicky - cuteness not withstanding. I certainly won't recommend one to a friend unless he/she is mechanically inclined and understands the 2nd law of thermodynamics and ohm's law.
