The coating is only a few microns thick, so there is no clearence problems.

The thermal barrier coating decreases wear and keeps heat from damaging the valve.

Breaking in the engine would be the same. Run engine 20min @2000 rpms, change oil(NOT syn.), run at 500 miles change oil(NOT syn.), at 1000 miles change oil,(NOT syn.), then at @5000 MILES CHANGE OIL AND switch to syn. Keeping the speed below 55 to 60 mph and do not drive at a steady pace for long until after 5000 miles.
