Subject: PS pump getting noisy
Comments: To: vanagon@vanagon.com

I recently noticed that my power steering pump is making a noise like it has a bad bearing. Similar to the noise a failing water pump makes. Coincidental probably, but I began to hear the noise right after I had the PS fluid changed. How do these usually fail? Do they seize or just get noisier and noisier until you can't stand it any more? When you replace the pump do you have to bleed the hydraulic lines? Any advice appreciated.
