I found the definitive answer at Jim Davis' fantastic Vanagon information website: http://www.vanagon.com/info/years/ The 1991 Vanagon GL Camper Syncro original retail price was: $26,085 - $26,475. Also, for what it's worth, the Kelley Blue Book RETAIL price for this car in the Pacific Northwest with 75k miles and ALL options (front and rear air, 5 speed, power windows, cruise control, etc.) is $25,088.
