We drove our '81 Westie into Tucson on Thursday. This is about 80 miles each way. Everything seemed normal until after we got to Tucson. We had used the brakes when getting off the Interstate, and a couple of times after that. Then we missed a light, and I braked a bit harder - still not really hard. There was a fairly loud thump-thump-thump repeated several times, coming from the left rear. It went away when I let up on the brake, and did not recur while we drove around Tucson. When we drove home we had to brake again when we got off of I-10, and no noise. We then drove the eight miles to our driveway, and when we stepped on the brakes to make the turn into the driveway, the thumping again continued until we let off the brake. It has not happened again, but we haven't driven very far since then, either. Any ideas what this might be? I hate these intermitant problems.
