Please tell me why braide (sic) stainless steel hose is NOT a viable (or mentioned) alternative to the deteriatable (sic) cotton/rubber hoses? Has any one spent the $$$$$ to do this? How bad was it? curious Mike 87 WolfW/E 87 Westy 89 Jetta >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Mike and Becky- I would think it would work just fine. Brainstorming WHY folks haven't used them, I would think chiefly the PRICE of fitting good quality Stainless Steel lines with the proper barbed/clamped fittings. I wouldn't venture a guess, but would think it could be pretty steep, particularly compared with the $1.50-a-foot alternative that lasts a couple years. The only three problems I can conceive: the SS lines could cause chaffing and abrading other softer lines/materials in the motorbox; the SS lines could rattle against other metal in the motorbox; the SS lines could be more prone to vapor lock. All of those things could be dealt with, though.
