>With salt-on-the-roads season coming soon I'm wondering if anyone knows >the answer to the following: >Do car washes recycle the water they use (good for the environment) and >if so does the salt washed off from all the vehicles stay in solution to >go back onto mine under high pressure and get everywhere it really >shouln't(bad for the vanagon). Any opinions on using car washes to get >road salt of the vanagon? How frequently should it be washed to >minimize rusting? >Mark > This is hearsay but some do and some don't, or so I have heard. Yes it does get sprayed onto your van. wash the heck out of the van. when I was in buffalo (read: lots and lots o' salt) I tried at least every two weeks to wash it. I liked the do it yourself places the best. drive through carwashes (the brush kind) scared the crap out of me, it just did not feel like the guy who designed it had the vw van in mind. even better put the van away for the winter and drive a golf or rabbit or cross country ski to work or somthing! I have heard of people using a SPECIAL KIND of oil to spray the bottom of the van an prevent rust probslems but you will have to ask someone else on the list about that. well thats my 2 cents seth gordon 84 WLE |
