Jetta towing capacity about 1000 lbs.  Vanagon weight 3200-4200 lbs.  The
big problem is not getting going, but stopping.  I've towed cars that were
slightly heavier than the tow car, and the heavier car could push the tow
car in whatever direction it felt like going at the moment.  Towing
something that is nearly twice the weight of the tow car sounds like
suicide.  Many of the police along the way could feel the same way about it.
