Joel: It is a paste that one puts on bread or crackers that is the consistency of peanut butter, the color of chocolate (with a bit of red) and (to the north American palette) is foul tasting. It is an animal extract with what tastes like huge amounts of salt in it.

If you want to get an idea of the taste, put an "Oxo" cube in your mouth!! That is about as close as I can describe it to a North American.

Popular in Aust. and maybe UK.

I lived in Tasmania for two years and never got use to it. It IS an acquired taste.

Maybe someone from Aust. can send Joel a bit of it.
