Subject: How Do I Paint My Vanagon?
Comments: To: "vanagon@VANAGON.COM" <vanagon@VANAGON.COM>

Hello,

It's been 25 years since I painted a car. Back then the choice was lacquer or enamel. I used enamel with an epoxy additive that caused it to dry quickly and have a harder finish.

So Saturday, I went to the auto paint store and asked about paint systems. All they had was lacquer and a whole bunch of paint systems that were urethane based.

Now these urethane based systems sound wonderful, but they all use a curing additive that contains cyanide. A respirator is required and there is danger to passing cats and dogs. Since I don't have a spray booth, I am not comfortable painting with this stuff.

I am not anxious to use lacquer because of the need to rub it out to obtain gloss. I need to paint the interior, and I don't think that I can polish all the complex surfaces.

So, do you folks know of any other painting choices and where I can obtain information about them?

Thanks, Mike
