I towed a 1982 diesel westy 1000 miles with a 1982 gas jetta (the timing belt on the van broke). Drove at 55 - 60 mph, slower on hills. I don't think it affected the car any. Only concern would be saftey. It didn't seem all that more dangerous than towing anything else with the jetta though. Used a tow bar, all four wheels on the ground.
