Many real off road vehicles in Europe have mechanical aux drives for winches
and things. Sometimes even driving a powered trailer. Makes
more sense than first transforming mechanical power into
electical, and then through monster cables & winch motor back to mechanical
again. Only drawback is that the winch spool is often under
the vehicle, and the cable routed around to the front or rear
with pulleys. Makes it tricky to get to, especially when you're
sunk in yourself.

Winched an 18 wheeler back onto the road from a muddy field with one
of these once. Pulled out a smaller delivery truck sunk to the wheel
axles another time. Rescue vehicle was a Scania TGB 40 in both cases.
Makes other off roads look like toys.
