I know this tire thread (tread?) has been worn out over the last couple of months but I've got problems and I need some answers/suggestions.


Just got the Westy yesterday.  The PO said he read the list before he bought the new tires and got what was recommended....I took his word for it.  Now after having researched the archives I find out he almost got it right :-(


Tires are near new, less than 1000 miles.  Unfortunately they're Yokohama Y370G 205/70R14     1433 lb. rating @ 35 psi.  I think I've gathered, through reading the archives, that this is a passenger tire and in no way should be used on a Westy.  Does everyone agree?


If so, here's a possible solution (if it'll work!).  My 1991 VW Passat Wagon GL needs a set of new tires as well.   It currently has 195/60R14  on it - a shorter and wider tire.  I think (!) the narrower aspect of the tire will allow it to clear the wheel wells and I know that it will mess up my speedo (how much, I don't have a clue).  The dealer that I talked with today carries Yokohamas.


Question #1 - is it true the PO messed up and the tire is underrated?
Question #2 - does anyone have experience or any idea if a swap to my Passat will work?
Question #3 - how much will these taller tires goof up my speedo?
Question #4 - What Yokohama model/size should I get for the Westy?
