At a garage I used to work in, our neighbor was a true mexican mechanic who used to work at a VW dealership in Mexico. He had some of the best tricks for doing without tools. Take some toilet paper, soak it with oil or water, stuff as much as possible in the pilot bearing. Now find an old input shaft (or something that fits well inside the pilot bearing) and a big hammer.
